The VampireMoonlight filtered through the branches of the trees above, sending watery shafts of silver light pooling onto the forest floor. It was a cloudless night and the stars glistened in the black velvet sky. An eerie silence had taken hold of the forest, shattered only by a woman’s distressed wailing. Slowly her cries died down into a muffled gasping. The woman rocked back and fort on her heels desperately trying to keep warm. Long dark hair streaked with mud trailed over her shoulders as she cradled the bundle of golden silk closer to her chest. LostHot desert sand burned into the soles of my feet while the merciless sun shone down onto my back neck and face, leaving no part of my body untouched by its intense heat. It scorched my skin and turned it into a bloodied pink mess that no longer resembled the human body. The pain was excruciating. It felt as though geysers were erupting under my flesh, blubbering away at my bones and turning them into charred black ashes. A fierce warm wind traveled across the mountains ahead, picking up jagged grains of sand and hurling them back across the deserted landscape towards me.
